How Does Acupuncture Work?

Acupuncture involves the insertion of fine needles in the specific sites or acupuncture points along the body’s meridians. There has been a trend towards the use of disposable needles with reduced costs in production and supply of needles, in order to reduce the risk of infection. There are protocols, procedures, special considerations, and prohibited areas for needling that the therapist should be aware of.

The practitioner may also stimulate the acupuncture points using other methods including Moxibustion (warming & stimulation of a point via the burning of a Chinese herb called Moxa), Cupping (suction cups made of pyrex glass or plastic and applied to the skin), Laser Therapy, Electro-Stimulation, Acupressure/Shiatsu & Massage, in order to re-establish the flow of Qi.
